The Bears take the mat!
On Wednesday night, the Tahoma Bears took the wrestling mat for the first time this season. The event started off with a very brief dual with the Mount Rainier Boys team. The Mount Rainier team did not field a full varsity line up and the Bears took care of business quickly pinning every Ram in under 30 seconds except for one who fell in the second round. While they had a large team, many of their wrestlers did not have enough practices to partake in the first dual of the year. We hope to see their program grow under new Coaching leadership this season.
The Mount Rainier match served as a nice warm-up to what would be a very difficult match against Lake Stevens. Lake Stevens and Tahoma have been Washington’s overall best two teams in 4A for the past two decades. They are always a tough team and wrestling them was a great way to get the season started in front of a packed house. The dual ended in a tie, with Tahoma losing on the “i” criteria (Most first points scored in the match). Results to the dual can be found on our results page HERE.
Also on Wednesday night, our women’s team made their debut. This was the first ever that a Tahoma Girls Wrestling team has taken the mat! The girls had a great match with the Lake Stevens Girls team. After the match, the Tahoma girls were joined by the girls in our Tahoma Bears Junior Program for a team photo to celebrate the occasion on the mat. The results of the girls matches can be found HERE.
After the match, many of the Junior Bears in attendance were able to get their season poster signed by their favorite Tahoma Wrestlers. We will have another opportunity to get posters signed on our official Junior Bears Night later this season where graduating Junior Bears will get a chance to wrestle under the lights before our dual.
This weekend the Boys team will be competing in the Sumner Duals and the Girls will be wrestling in the Emerald Ridge Tournament. We want to thank the best fans in the state for coming out and supporting us. We couldn’t do what we do without your ongoing support. Go Bears!
