Tahoma Bears Wrestlers Roar at the "Best of the West" Duals

Yesterday, the Tahoma Bears wrestling team participated in the "Best of the West" dual meet tournament held at Pasco High School. Both our varsity (Blue Team) and junior varsity (Gold Team) teams got after it competing in 5 different duals each. We had a couple of wrestlers unable to compete due to injury, but our depth paid off as we were able to fill holes on both teams with quality backups that were ready to step up.

A rare Blue Santa Sighting

The Blue Team faced five intense duals, wrestling with heart and unwavering determination. They kicked off strong, overpowering Newberg's JV team with a staggering 61-18 victory. Crew Lambro shone brightly in the 106 category, taking down his opponent in just 1:15. The momentum continued as Colby Hill and Carter Tughan dominated their respective matches, showcasing the skill and grit that defines Tahoma wrestling.

Our second match against Kennewick resulted in a resounding 71-6 triumph. Wrestlers like Alex Othon and Joe Sullivan delivered outstanding performances, outclassing their opponents with technical mastery and sheer willpower.

As the tournament progressed, the Bears faced Sunnyside, dispatching them with a decisive 57-15 win. Every match demonstrated our team's ability to adapt and overcome, with standout performances across the board.

However, in our encounter with Newberg Oregon, the true spirit of Tahoma wrestling was tested. Despite the 43-25 score, the matches were closer than they appeared, with many bouts fiercely contested. Each wrestler fought valiantly, exemplifying the resilience and tenacity that our program instills.

In the final match for 3rd and 4th place, Tahoma faced Mt. Spokane and emerged victorious with a commanding 71-12 score. This win secured our well-deserved 3rd place in the tournament, a testament to the hard work and dedication of each of our wrestlers.

As for our Gold Team, they too wrestled with heart and determination. Despite facing challenging matchups, they showed growth and resilience, qualities that are the cornerstone of our program. Their experiences and lessons from this tournament will undoubtedly fuel their journey ahead. The Gold team highlight was beating the Prosser Varsity team by a score of 52-22. Freshman Eben Nau went 3-1 on the day as did Harlan Day at 215 pounds.

We're proud of both our Blue and Gold Teams for their outstanding performances. The Blue team will be traveling to compete in the Sierra Nevada Classic held in lovely Reno, Nevada next week. We hope all of you Bear fans enjoy the holiday break and time with your families. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. We can’t do what we do without you. Looking forward to another great year of Tahoma Wrestling #GoBears
