A Weekend of Wins: Tahoma Wrestling's Impressive Run at the Jaguar Invitational

This past weekend, our team had initially planned to travel to Prosser for the Rumble in the Valley wrestling tournament. However, due to severe weather conditions across the state, leading to school closures in Prosser, we had to change our plans.

Determined to find some mat time, we found the opportunity to participate in the Jaguar Invitational at Emerald Ridge High School instead. Despite being down one wrestler due to illness, allowing us to enter only 13 wrestlers, our team still found a way to the top. Our entire team lost only two matches throughout the day, and impressively, one of those was in a finals match where our own wrestlers competed against each other.

Our wrestlers dominated the tournament, winning 11 of the 14 finals matches and crowning champions in weight classes ranging from 106 to 175 pounds. All but two of our team members competed up a weight class, adding to the impressiveness of their wins. The final team score was a testament to their outstanding performance, with Tahoma scoring 292 points, far outpacing second-place Emerald Ridge, which scored 142.5 points.

A couple of ranked wins on day, Gavin Wells secured wins against the #2 wrestler in 3A and the #3 wrestler in 1A, earning his championship title at 144 pounds. Joe Sullivan also effortlessly defeated the #1 ranked wrestler in 3A.

Below is a list of our champs from the tournament:

  • 106 Pounds: Colby Hill

  • 113 Pounds: Crew Lambro

  • 120 Pounds: Carter Tughan

  • 126 Pounds: Owen Marshall

  • 132 Pounds: Alex Othon

  • 136 Pounds: Zach Baker

  • 144 Pounds: Gavin Wells

  • 150 Pounds: Joe Sullivan

  • 157 Pounds: Isac Deonigi

  • 165 Pounds: Cyrus Comia

  • 175 Pounds: Adriano Perez

Our other two wrestlers in the tournament also had great days. Dylan Stover took 2nd at 175 pounds and Kage Repenn took 3rd place with his only loss coming to the eventual tournament champion.

Looking ahead, the Bears are preparing for our final home dual of the season this Wednesday night against the Gators of Decatur. We hope to fill the stands as we honor our seniors. On Friday, we will be heading to Lake Stevens for a dual. Thank you to all of our fans who came out to support us in yesterday and thank you to the Coaches at Emerald Ridge for letting us into the tournament on such late notice.
